Are You Caring For America?

One of the special reasons to be involved in Republican Women is the opportunity to “care for America” – and it’s not very hard.
Over the past few years individual clubs and the state federation have both donated hundreds and thousands of dollars to various charities.
One of my favorite charities is Wreathes Across America. The photos are heartwarming to see the fragrant evergreen wreathes adorning the grave sites of our military cemeteries. Check out their website at

Another favorite is USO-NC. Located in the Raleigh-Durham airport, there is a multi-function space for care, respite, and relaxation of service members and their families. Open 24/7/365, it is a fully self-supported operation. Donations of food, drink, supplies, convenience items, and, most of all, money is required to keep the doors open. When the renovation of Terminal 2 was completed, the fresh space sparkled web welcoming its 2500 visitors each month. Check out their website at http://uso-nc.org/.

And finally, another very worthy project in the state is the Fisher House Fort Bragg. Part of the nationwide network of homes near military hospitals for the comfort and aid of military families, Fort Bragg has a great location near Womack Army Hospital. Each year since 2007, I have visited at least once, sometimes more, taking Republican women and donations. A fully functioning home that acts like hotel accommodations, there is a warm environment for those in need or low-cost or no-cost accommodations. The staff is always open for a visit, with advance notice to enter Fort Bragg. No one had visited who did not come back more inspired than those they went to minister to – a heart-warming experience.
