The Giant Is Gone – What Do Future Maps Hold?

On Saturday, February 13, 2016, the world learned that a giant had passed. Justice Antonin Scalia was traveling in TX, and had passed away. The consequence of this loss to the country was obvious. The replacement of a Justice is a time-consuming and lengthy battle for competing ideologies. The President will replace Justice Scalia during the biggest election of our lifetimes. How long will it take for the Senate to confirm?

The Scalia family lost a treasured member, but the country lost a legal titan.

The impact of this loss to North Carolina was also of grave concern. The NC General Assembly had been ordered on February 5, 2016 to redraw the Congressional District maps by February 19, 2016. The effect of redrawn maps was to force the NC election into a bit of chaos. A 4-4 tie on the Supreme Court without Justice Scalia could spell uncertainty for NC.
