Beauty in Bloom – The Season of Giving is 365

Once again on Good Friday 2015, the community participated in preparing a meal for needy thousands at the Durham Rescue Mission (DRM). Led by Dr. and Mrs. Ernie Mills, the DRM is the Triangle’s largest and oldest shelter for those in need. Accepting no government money, the Mission is able to offer life-sustaining and life-saving shelter for men, women and children, while also offering a Biblical message of hope and salvation. The religious focus precludes government funds, but the Mills have sustained this vital outreach in the Durham community for over 30 years. When you visit the mission, you can see the pride taken by the residents who are battling and winning their struggles to overcome homelessness, addition, and trouble. The uplifting testimonies give all of us hope that when we help each other, we help ourselves. The smiles on faces are as beautiful as pink dogwood blossoms which show up this time of year. Easter 2015 was the spring season of giving, but the needs continue year-round. And if you think about it, the more people being helped by charity/non-government groups is a good lesson about how government is NOT the answer to all societal ills. I will provide some ongoing updates about how DRM is meeting needs and mending lives. But if you can make a contribution today, it would be great.
